Saying "Goodnight"

It has become a nightly ritual for my dad to take my mom ice cream before bedtime at the nursing home. Since coming to LR I have joined him in this nightly ritual. It is one that I look forward to and dread at the same time. I look forward to it because it seems to be the time of day when we get my mom to laugh the hardest - big belly laughs that give us that glimse of her peronality. The saddest part, the part that I dread, is leaving to go home without her. Every night I'm reminded that this is where life has brought us. My mom has Alzheimer's. She will continue to decline. Someday we will lose her.

But we have almost every night until then to say, "Goodnight."

This made me cry. I am praying for you. This has to be difficult. What a blessing to be able to treasure these moments and take them for what they are, rather than dwelling on what they are not. Blessings to you!
